sabisa – performing change e.V. is a non-profit organisation based in Berlin, Germany, which employs creative media and the performing arts in social transformation and community cultural development.
In our current activities we collaborate with partner organisations both within and outside Germany, focusing on an emancipatory praxis in cultural development work: in constructively dealing with conflicts, in combating racism and social exclusion, in facilitating critical and fruitful communication and exchange between the North and the South. The work of sabisa is guided by participatory methods, democratic principles and a strong belief in creative, dialogue-oriented approaches to social change.
sabisa organises exchange programmes promoting international dialogue and networking between the North and South on creative media and performing arts in social change.
We undertake cultural community development work in areas such as non-formal education, anti-bias and conflict transformation training; performances and presentations related to these issues; conceptualisation and implementation of cultural projects and events and act as consultants to other organisations.
sabisa organises lecture-demonstration series and workshops in Germany, conducted by invited experts from the South on non-Western methods and approaches to cultural development work; training programmes for multipliers.
We do academic research and create debate on creative media and the performing arts in social transformation, and integration of creative, performative methods into academic research; evaluation and monitoring of cultural community work.
